The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Anger Regarding Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Reaction
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Changes
Before the change, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she stated.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
